BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain on Sunday said the government would be dislodged soon. He also said the ruling party would be “shaken out of power”, referring to the comments made by the home minister that the Savar building collapse was triggered by violent shaking of the building by a group of opposition activists. “The BNP doesn’t believe in such politics. The countrymen won’t shake a building. They rather will shake the government out of power,” he added, while addressing a human chain programme, in front of the National Press Club, demanding immediate release of senior party leaders, including Mirza Abbas.
The BNP leader said the country and its people are not safe under the present government.
He alleged that the owner of the collapsed building in Savar had forced garments workers to join their work, even after cracks appeared on the structure.
Presided over by Kazi Sajjad Zahid, convener of the Motijheel Thana unit BNP, the function was also addressed by BNP leaders Barkatullah Bulu, Mojibur Rahman Sarwar, Khairul Kabir Khokon, Nilufar Chowdhury Moni, MP, and Helen Jerin Khan.
Addressing a memorial meeting, BNP standing committee member barrister Moudud Ahmed said if the BNP would provide a compensation of Tk. 20 lakh for the families of each victim, if the party is voted to power in the next election.
He further said the survivors would be given jobs at garment factories. Terming the incident as tragic, the BNP leader accused a Savar Juba League leader of killing the garment workers by forcing them into the building.
He criticised the Prime Minister for not visiting the site. He said that the Prime Minister has no compassion for garments workers.
The BNP leader also criticised the President for taking oath on the day the Savar building had collapsed.
The meeting was organised by Supreme Court Bar Association, with its president AJ Mohammad Ali in the chair.
BNP standing committee member barrister Rafiqul Islam Miah, barrister Abdur Razzak, Nitai Chandra Roy Chowdhury, barrister Badruddoza Badol and barrister Mahbub Uddin Khakon, MP, were present there.
BNP standing committee member MK Anwar, referring to the remarks of the home minister, said if a building collapses due to violent shaking of hartal supporters, the power base of the present government would be smashed by united movement of the people.
He was addressing a sit-in programme in front of the National Press Club, demanding the release of Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman.
The BNP leader demanded Tk. 20 lakh for the families of each victim of the Savar building collapse.
He said the people would ensure the release of Mahmudur Rahman through intensive movements.
Organised by Swadhinata Forum, the function was also addressed by BNP leader Barkat Ullah Bulu, BFUJ leader Ruhul Amin Gazi, genral secretary of the National Press Club Syed Abdal Ahmed, poet Abdul Hye Shikder and Dr Majharul Islam Dolon.
Forum president Abu Naser Mohammad Rahmatullah presided over the event.
