Khaleda says her party will ensure good governance
BNP chairperson and leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia said on Thursday that if voted to power in the next general election, her party would form a new type of government which would be free from corruption and would ensure good governance and democratic norms. Addressing an iftar party hosted by her party for the elected representatives of the local government bodies, the former prime minister termed the present government ‘failed, repressive and corrupt,’ saying the countrymen want change and that will be ensured through building a corruption free democratic country.
The former premier also called upon the elected representatives of civic bodies to remain active and stand by the people and asked them to ensure peoples’ interest with honesty and dedication.
“The government has snatched dignity from the elected mayors of local bodies. The dignity will be restored if we are voted to power in the next general election,” she pledged.
Bringing vote rigging allegation against the government in recently held Gazipur City Corporation poll, Khaleda Zia said the government has failed to hold free, fair and impartial elections including local body elections during its four and a half year administrations.
Despite the government hatching plan to engineer local body elections, people have cast their ballots in favour of the BNP backed candidates boosting the demand for restoration of non-party caretaker government.
“Our non-party CG restoration demand has been made stronger through the recently held civic body polls. We will ensure holding of the next general election under a CG management through movement,” she added.
The ruling Awami League is engaged in letting loose repression on the people and indulged in committing corruption. The countrymen want to get rid of the government sponsored repression, she said.
“I know, prayer is granted if it is made just before taking iftar. We should offer prayer to the Almighty Allah so that we all get relief from the repressive acts of the ruling Awami League,” she said.
Khaleda Zia said movement over CG issue will be strengthened after Eid celebrations. Leaders and activists of the party as well as the elected public representatives will have to come forward to make the movement a success.
BNP standing committee members RA Gani, Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Mahbubur Rahman, MK Anwar, ASM Hannan Shah, Nazrul Islam Khan, Mirza Abbas, vice chairman Sadeque Hossain Khoka and others were present at the function.
