The main opposition BNP-led 18-party alliance has warned that it would launch an oust-government movement after Eid-ul-Azha if the government does not resolve the prevailing political crisis over non-party caretaker government (CG) issue. “We will have no option but to intensify oust-government movement after the Eid if the ruling Awami League does not sit across the table to overcome the crisis,” said BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman. He said this at a press briefing at the party’s Naya Paltan central office on Friday. Earlier, the secretary general
meeting of the 18-party alliance was held with Noman in the chair to make the Narsingdi rally a success.
Noman urged the government to reinstate the polls-time non-party interim government so that the next general poll could be held in a free, fair and congenial atmosphere.
“Meaningful dialogue is needed. Time is still adequate. The government should take immediate measures to overcome the prevailing political standoff,” he added.
“If our demand is not met, the 18-party leaders and activists as well as the countrymen will go for a tough movement,” he said. Noman reminded the government that all public movements including the Language Movement and Independent War were successful in the past.
“We are almost there to start fresh movement. Our victory is a must,” he said.
Noman has blamed the government for amending the constitution using its majority in the parliament. By doing so, the constitution has been turned into a partisan charter, he alleged.
The government has made the administration as subservient and partisan. In this context, fair and impartial election is not possible under the present administration, he added.
As part of their movement strategy, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is scheduled to address at least eight public rallies across the country starting from September 8 to mobilise peoples’ support in favour of the CG demand, he said.
The BNP chief’s first public rally will be held at Balurmath in Narsingdi on Sunday.
Noman said the rally will turn into a human sea and
they are taking every necessary preparation to make the programme a success. Noman hoped that the good sense would prevail upon the government after sighting the peoples’ spontaneous participation in the 18-party alliance rally.
The BNP vice chairman said people will shatter the
government’s dream to rig vote through creating a strong resistance, he said.
Rejecting Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s given outline for holing the next polls under her own administration, Noman said the 18-party will neither participate nor allow holding of the next general poll under the Hasina management.
