Suranjit Sengupta, minister without portfolio, on Friday said that the opposition leader Khaleda Zia has finally agreed to sit for dialogue as it failed to topple the government. “BNP, as a political party, now has no identity of its own. It depends on either Jamaat-e-Islami or Hefazat-e-Islam to carry out plots against the government. BNP thought it could topple the government by setting some people at Shapla Chattar. But that conspiracy has failed. And that’s why they have agreed to sit for dialogue,” he observed. Suranjit made the remarks at a discussion organised by the Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote at the public library auditorium in the city. “When Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina urged opposition leader Khaleda Zia to sit for dialogue, she issued a 48-hour ultimatum. Now I want to ask why she issued it and what made her to do so. It seems like BNP considered the government’s call for dialogue as a sign of weakness,” he commented. He further said that the government is still ready to hold dialogue to resolve any kind of political crisis. “We favoured dialogue in the past; and still we are advocating it. The ball is now in BNP’s court. It has to shun the paths of conspiracy and anarchy if it is ready to sit for dialogue and the talks will be held only as per constitution,” he asserted. Urging BNP to shun the path of conspiracy, Suranjit told, “Come to the path of democracy. No plot and conspiracy can help you to go to power.”
