Noted Bangladeshi actress Bobita has recently been made a voluntary Goodwill Ambassador of the U.S. based non-profit organisation ‘Distressed Children and Infants International’ (DCII).
Bobita informed that she had always wanted to work for children but a busy acting career didn’t leave much time for anything else. She met Dr. Nina Haque, director of DCII, recently. Noticing her (Bobita’s) interest in children, Dr. Haque asked the actress to be the Goodwill Ambassador of the organisation.
A press release from DCII confirms that Bobita will take part in different campaigns and publicities on behalf of the organisation. She will also speak on child rights at seminars. DCII confirms that Bobita will speak at the third conference of the organisation, to be held at Yale University, U.S. on September 10. Following the conference, the actress will participate in campaigns, in different states of U.S. and Canada.
Bobita is the first Bangladeshi to have been made Goodwill Ambassador of DCII that has been working for child welfare, with the assistance of UNICEF, since 2003. The actress earned international acclaim after playing one of the lead roles in Satyajit Ray’s film “Ashoni Sanket” (Distant Thunder) that depicted the 1943 famine in undivided Bengal. The actress received National Film Award six times.
