Bowlers dominated the second day of 19th National Cricket League fourth round with off-spinner Iftekhar Sajjad grabbing 5-91 to help Chittagong restrict Dhaka Metro to 369-9 on the second day on Sunday.
Resuming on 236-3 at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Metro could add only 133 runs before they were forced to declare their first innings.At Shahid Kamruzzaman Stadium in Rajshahi, Sohrawardi Shuvo and Ariful Haque each claimed four wickets as Rangpur dismissed defending champions Khulna to 218 after first two sessions were rained off.
Away in Khulna, Barisal were struggling at 201-6 after folding Dhaka for 250 at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium.
At Bogra, rain and bad light couldn’t stem the collapse of the Sylhet, who finished the second day’s play at 95-6 against Rajshahi after the first day’s play was abandoned.
Dhaka Metro v Chittagong
Metro were hoping to pile a big total with Mehrab Hossain Jr and Mohammad Ashraful at the crease overnight respectively with 75 and 54.
Belal Hossain removed Ashraful for 66 in the ninth over and once Iftekhar bowled Mehrab for 94 momentum swung to Chittagong’s way.
A 60-run partnership by Asif Ahmed (30) and Jabid Hossain (29) helped Metro pass 350-run mark before they declared their innings.
In reply, Chittagong reached 41-1 with Ashraful picking the only wicket.
Khulna v Rangpur
Resuming on 77-3, Khulna faced the wrath of Ariful while he picked overnight unbeaten batsman Anamul for 61 before finishing with 4-49.
Shuvo added two wickets to his overnight collection to return with 4-57 as Rangpur folded Khulna cheaply.
Dhaka v Barisal
Dhaka were able to add only 19 runs to their overnight score of 231 as pacer Salman Hossain and spinner Monir Hossain picked four wickets and three wickets respectively.
Mohammad Sharif, unbeaten on 41, completed his fifty before being dismissed as last man for 58.
In reply, Barisal lost wickets on a regular basis to score 75-4 at one stage, but 110-run partnership between Shoha Gazi (73) and Mohammad Nuruzzaman (51) took them to 201-6 at stumps.
Rajshahi v Sylhet
Farhad Reza and Delwar Hossain shared four wickets between them as Rajshahi put Sylhet in trouble after finally started at 2:00pm on the second day.
Rajin Saleh (5) and Abul Hasan (0) were struggling in the middle when bad light forced early stumps with Sylhet 95-6.
