Female students lag behind male students in terms of pass percentage in Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and its equivalent examinations this year.
The pass percentage of female examinees is 75.01 with 2,63,412 coming out successful among 3,51,153 while 75.14 percent of male students passed the examinations.
A total of 4,13,675 male candidates took the examinations under the ten education boards– eight general education boards and madrasa and technical education boards.
Last year, female candidates outshone their male counterparts in terms of pass percentage under the eight general education boards.
More boys achieved GPA 5 (grade point average) than girls this year. A total of 21,742 boys secured GPA 5 while the number of female GPA 5 scorers is 18,027 under the ten education boards, according to the education board statistics.
Among three groups– science, agriculture and home economics; humanities, Islamic studies and music; and business studies under the eight general education boards, girls have beaten boys in business studies and humanities while boys defeated them in science.
In 2009, the pass percentage of boys was 73.63 while that of girls was 71.73 in the HSC and its equivalent examinations.
