The Bangladesh Premier League players’ transfer has been brought forward by four days and will now be held on October 22 because of a request from the franchises, said BPL governing council officials on Tuesday. According to BPL officials they are hell-bent of not changing the date this time as they have already altered it thrice by announced it on October 31 initially, before changing it to October 26.
‘The players’ draft will now be held on October 22,’ Jalal Younus, member of the BPL governing council told reporters at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Tuesday.
‘The franchises will have a little time to interact with the players so they asked us to bring it forward.
‘Zimbabwe are arriving on November 2 or 3 which would mean very little time will be available for the franchises to sit with their players and engage them in their commercial activities.
‘Once the national players are called for training ahead of the Zimbabwe series, the franchises won’t get access to them until right before the start of the BPL.
‘So we made the change of the date,’ Jalal said.
Jalal added that they will put six icon cricketers in the lottery based players’ transfer, to be staged at a city hotel, as some of the franchises failed to come into terms with the players.
Earlier, BPL officials announced that the six icon cricketers —Mashrafee bin Murtaza, Sakib al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal, Nasir Hossain, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah — will not be put up in the players’ transfer occasion and be allocated by the franchises with a mutual consent.
‘Some of the franchise could not come into terms with the icon cricketers so we decided to put them in the players’ transfer.’
