Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have finalized their divorce, as confirmed by Jolie’s lawyer on Monday, bringing an end to one of Hollywood’s longest and most contentious divorce battles.
Jolie’s attorney, James Simon, informed The Associated Press that the couple has reached an agreement.
People magazine was the first to break the news.
In his statement, Simon mentioned that Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt over eight years ago. He explained that she and the children left the home they once shared with Pitt, and since then, Jolie has been focused on fostering peace and healing within their family.
Simon also highlighted that this settlement is merely one step in a lengthy process that began eight years ago. While the divorce settlement is now complete, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are still engaged in a legal dispute over the Chateau Miraval vineyard in France. Pitt has claimed that Jolie sold her share of the winery to the Stoli Group without his consent.
According to the Daily Mail, both Jolie and Pitt have expressed a willingness to resolve the matter through mediation or to take it to a jury trial.
A source close to the situation revealed that Jolie has been working to find positivity after a challenging time.
“She doesn’t criticize Pitt, either publicly or privately. The children have grown up seeing how some individuals wield so much power and privilege that their voices seem unheard, and their pain often feels ignored.”
The source added that their six children—Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox—have encouraged Jolie to assert herself over the years. However, she consistently reminds them to focus on advocating for legal change rather than sharing personal stories in public.
Jolie filed for divorce in September 2016, two years after marrying Pitt following a decade-long relationship.
Reports indicate that just prior to the filing, the family went through a distressing event where Pitt faced allegations of physical abuse during a private flight.
Jolie and Pitt were officially declared single in 2019. Pitt, recognized for his role in “Bullet Train,” has been dating Los Angeles jewelry designer Ines de Ramon for nearly two years.
