Zico has insisted that Brazil’s team of 1982 that he was part of was better than the current crop of Spain internationals, reports Goal.com.
He analyzed the two sides, suggesting that his team 30 years ago attacked with more urgency and was overall the better line-up but praised La Roja’s ability to break down opponents via possession-based dominance.
‘It’s interesting to make a comparison,’ Zico said to Marca. ‘In Spain, the only desire is to go out and play, which is what we told Tele Santana, the coach of that team.
‘The difference is that we got to the goal faster, we shot more. Spain play more, pass more.
‘The Brazil team of ’82 had more complete players than the team of [Vicente] del Bosque.’
Zico hopes that the Selecao prevent Spain from playing at the Maracana in the Confederations Cup final on Sunday and
praised Luiz Felipe Scolari’s tactics in this summer’s international tournament.
‘We have to mark them tightly, press them hard and not allow them to play. Brazil has done this before and it has produced results,’ he added.
