The Bangladeshi players displayed praiseworthy performances as Abdullah Al Saif confirmed a draw against Russian Grandmaster Igor Yugopov in the Elite Category of the 5th Kiit International Chess Festival at Bhubaneswar, Odisha in India.
Meanwhile, International Master Abu Sufian Shakil grabbed a draw against the tournament’s highest rated player GM Mechdlishvili of Georgia in one of the 2nd round games of the Elite Category.
After the end of the second round matches, GM Enamul Hossain Razib garnered 2 points courtesy of defeating IM Praveen Kumar of India which positioned him at the leading spot along with 13 other players.
At the end of the 2nd round games, GM Ziaur Rahman, Shakil and FM Debaraj Chatterjee abled to gather 1½ points each. FM Sheikh Nasir Ahmed, FM Mehdi Hasan Parag and Kazi Taherul Islam each managed 1 point.
The 3rd round games of the Elite Category were scheduled to start Tuesday evening.
Besides, in the Platinum category, Sheikh Abdul Muttalib and Shahidul Islam recorded 3 points each at the end of the 4th round games.
