Two British adventurers are expected to reach Dhaka today crossing 15,000 kilometres on bicycles from London to raise awareness and funds for an institute for orphanage in Comilla.
Luke Barton and Tom Smith were hoping to raise cash for Noor E Farid Nasrine Academy, home for 40 boys in Comilla, and War Child, a UK charity. After started their journey in June, they first travelled across Western Europe through France, Germany and Austria before heading south through the Balkans to Greece.
After that, Luke and Tom crossed Turkey, then Central Asia through Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan and then they reached Karakorum Highway which led them through the mountains to Pakistan.
From Pakistan, they headed east into Northern India and crossed the country from west to east to finally reach Bangladesh.
During their journey they subjected to high temperature, bitter wind and cold.
The only time they left solid ground was when they had crossed the English Channel and bypassing Iran by plane.
BD Cyclists is scheduled to receive Luke and Tom with 20 local cycling enthusiasts in Manikgang this morning and will cycle to the capital with them.
The two adventurers are also scheduled to attend a press conference on their journey at the National Press Club in the city this noon.
Luke and Tom will spend two weeks at the Academy in Comilla, teaching the boys English, team building and sports activities.
The Noor E Farid Nasrine Academy first took 20 under privileged, abused, and orphaned boys aged between 2 and 4 in 2011.
