Brothers Union, a former superpower of local football, brought some colour and life to the drab preseason transfers with a show of grandeur and zest as they got 20 players registered for the upcoming football season.
The decorated Gopibagh club brought their players on horse carriage and bikes accompanied by band music that brought about a festive mood at the BFF premises.
Brothers, who have kept nine players from their squad of the previous season, are setting the Bangladesh League title as their target.
Newly appointed president of the club, Nazmul Islam expressed his target.
“After joining this position, I have tried to build a good side. We are looking to become champions. We think we will have a sort of home advantage since the matches will be played at the Kamalapur Stadium which is close to the club,” said Nazmul, adding that they were dead against any type of match-fixing.
Faisal Mahmood was the only player left out on the day’s registration who will be registered within the next few days, informed the club officials.
Two other clubs, namely Feni Soccer Club, last year’s fourth-placed in Bangladesh League, and Muktijoddha Sangsad too had their players formally registered.
There was a bit of controversy concerning Enamul Haque Sharif. The Muktijoddha officials claimed they had paid him his money but yet Sharif is appearing for Mohammedan. Muktijoddha’s general secretary.
Imdad Hossain Matin informed they have lodged an appeal with the federation and if nothing fruitful comes out of that, they will take action against the player by their own club rules.
