Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy has organised a national level contest in various categories for children and young adults on Friday to celebrate Rabindranath Tagore’s 152nd birth anniversary.
This was followed by a discussion session and an award giving ceremony on Saturday at the National Music and Dance Center Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy, where the winners in performing arts categories were given the opportunity to perform before a large audience.
The different categories included singing, recitation, acting, drawing and essay writing competition for participants from three levels-school, college and university.
Following the award distribution, the cultural programme began with the contest participants rendering a group song Ami marer sagor pari debo.
Sabbab Sayem, Ummay Habiba Mumtahina and Symul Haq, who stood first in recitation, recited Tagore poems- Sobujer Obhijan, Proshno and Africa respectively. Their recitals were applauded by the audience.
Anushka Bhattacharya, Biswajit Chakrabarti and Siddharth Golader, victors in the Tagore song category performed Rakhal chhele, Sokol gorbo bishorjon diye debo and Barshon mondito andhokar respectively. The audience was moved by the melody of the young voices with the correct rendition of Rabindrasangeet.
Jarin Tasnim, Sumona Akhtar Shanta and Kamrul Hasan who secured first positions in acting, performed certain sections of Tagore’s plays such as Ichhapuron, Rokto Korobi and Bishorjon respectively. Dibbo, a cultural organisation presented a group dance synchronised with the song Gram chhara oi ranga matir path, penned by Tagore, inspired by the beauty of villages in Bengal.
Cultural Affairs secretary Ronjit Bishwas, BSA Music and Dance department’s chairman Sohrab Uddin and director general of BSA Liaquat Ali lucky were present as guests for the prize giving ceremony.
The organisers informed that they will continue to arrange this type of contests to encourage talented children to participate in extra-curricular activities.
