The Indian Border Security Force shot dead a Bangladeshi national and injured another in Moheshpur border in Jhenaidah on Monday.
Cattle trader Jahidul Islam Laltu, 38, died at the Jessore General Hospital at about 7:00am while injured Sahinur Rahman, 29, underwent treatment at the same hospital, the hospital officials said.
The BSF personnel threw two bombs and also opened a few rounds of shots on Jahidul and Sahinur while they were returning home through the Indian-Bangladesh border at about 5:00am, said Azizur Rahman, chairman of Jadabpur union parishad under Moheshpur upazila.
Both Jahidul and Sahinur sustained bullets wounds and they were rushed to Jessore General Hospital where Jahidul died.
The BG 26 Battalion commanding officer, Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Abul Kalam Azad, confirmed the incident.
Jahidul Islam, son of Nizam Uddin, was a resident of village Lebutala in Moheshpur upazila, while Sahinur was resident of village Dhanyakhola in Sarsa in Jessore.
Moheshpur police station officer-in-charge Anwar Hossain said the body would be handed over to the family after post-mortem examination at the hospital.
