Bangladesh Sports Press Association on Saturday rewarded cricketer Tamim Iqbal and golf icon Siddikur Rahman with the sportsperson of the year award, SA Mohsin trophy, for 2012 and 2011 respectively. Speaker of the Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury handed over the awards to the nominated sportspersons as chief guest while Vice Chancellor of Dhaka University, AASM Arefin Siddique, was also present in the ceremony held at National Sports Council Auditorium.
18 players and organisers were honoured in different categories by the country’s oldest sports journalists’ organisation.
Footballer Mamunul Islam, cricketers Sakib al Hasan and Salma Khatun, gymnast Syque Cesar, International Cricket Council vice-president and former Bangladesh Cricket Board president AHM Mostafa Kamal, Islami Bank Limited (sponsor), Fide Master Fahad Rahman (chess) and former athlete Saidur Rab were awarded for the 2011 calendar year.
Hockey player Mamunur Rahman Chayan, cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim, Grand Master Enamul Hossain Rajib (chess), hockey coach Mahbub Harun, emerging cricketer Sohag Gazi, Lutfur Rahman Badal (organiser), Walton (sponsor) and BCB’s former member Riazuddin Al Mamun were rewarded for the year 2012.
The BSPA also honoured BCB director Mahbubul Anam for his contributions.
