A businessman was stabbed to death by unidentified
miscreants in the Sylhet city Thursday night.
The deceased was identified as Ringku Barua, 43, owner of a printing and designing shop at Surma Market near Keane Bridge in the city and son of Sukumar Barua of residence 44 at Road 37 under Block C in the city’s Shahjalal Upa-Shahar.
The police, meanwhile, arrested a youth Abu Saleh, 19, younger brother of Abu Bakkar who is the owner of a nearby shop of Ringku at the Surma Market, after the incident for his suspected involvement with the murder, sources in the police said.
Police and locals said three miscreants stabbed Ringku in front of the Upa-Shahar branch of Dhaka Bank at around 8:30pm on Thursday when he was returning home from his business establishment in a rickshaw.
Local people took the victim to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital where the doctors declared him dead, police said.
Shah Paran police officer-in-charge told New Age that rivalry over business might have led to the killing.
