The Election Commission (EC) yesterday announced reschedules for by-elections to seven vacant general seats and 45 reserved seats for women of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
Election Commissioner Muh-ammad Sohul Hussain said, as per the new schedules, the by-elections to seven JS constituencies will be held on April 2, which was originally scheduled for March 30.
He said the voting for the 45 reserved seats for women will take place on March 30, which was earlier scheduled for March 29.
Sohul Hussain said the EC felt the need to bring some changes to the poll schedules in view of the current situation in the country.
As per the new schedule, the last date for submission of nomination papers for the bypolls to seven JS seats is March 9 while the date for scrutiny is March 11 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature March 17.
The constituencies where the by-elections will be held are Rangpur-3 and 6, Kurigram-2, Bogra-6 and 7, Bagerhat-1 and Kishoreganj-6.
The last date for submission of nomination papers for reserved seats for women is March 12 while the date for scrutiny is March 15 and the last date for withdrawal of candidature March 19.
Sohul Hossain said the dates for polling in the cantres postponed during the upazila elections will remain unchanged.
Replying to a question from journalists, he said the Supreme Court has sent a list of magistrates to the law ministry to hold judicial investigation into irregularities in the upazila polls.
The investigations will begin as soon as the EC will receive the list of the magistrates, he added.
