An eight-day cake festival titled ‘Jatiya Pitha Utsab 1417’ presenting numerous traditional cakes began at the Shilpakala Academy in the capital on Friday.
The food and disaster management minister, Abdur Razzak, inaugurated the festival on the coffee house premises of the academy.
The festival, sponsored by Mutual Trust Bank Limited, experienced a huge crowd which enjoyed traditional winter cakes including nakshi pitha, dudh puli, patisapta, dudh chitai, bibikhana pitha, lobongo pitha, til pitha, mugdaler pitha, mera pitha, channya pitha, shamuk pitha, rosh bokul, love pitha.
Korean egg-cake was also an attraction for the visitors who were curious to see the making process as well as taste the delicacy made without oil.
Visitors also found some new items like mushroom doob chitai, Assam jhal papri sandesh and masala pitha.
Singer of people’s song Fakir Alamgir, lyricist Shahidullah Faraizi, actor Pijush Bandyopadhyay, Sammilita Sangskritik Jote vice-president Golam Kuddus, Bangladesh Group Theatre chairman Liaquat Ali Lucky, Mutual Trust Bank general manager Kamrul Islam
also addressed the opening ceremony of the festival having a total of 30 stalls.
The festival will remain open for the public from 3:00am to 9:00pm and continue till January 21.
