Participants in a seminar on Monday stressed the need for utilising huge quantity of household wastes produced in the Rajshahi city everyday.
Household wastes can be turned in assets such as gas and fertiliser by properly utilising them, they told the seminar held at Nagar Bhaban in the city.
The Rajshahi City Corporation and Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology jointly organised the seminar on ‘municipality wastes management.’
The Rajshahi mayor, AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, said the corporation had taken an initiative to utilise household wastes. ‘And work on wastes management will start soon,’ he added.
The mayor claimed that the corporation could not remove the city’s wastes regularly due to lack of awareness among the city people.
‘We will also conduct awareness programme for the city people headed by the respective ward councillors,’ he added.
‘It is possible to produce at least 800-cylinder gas from the household wastes by their proper utilisation,’ the mayor observed.
‘If we can utilise the wastes dumped every day, demand for fuel in the city will be met significantly,’ he added.
Professor Ethard Craft of Bahus International Research and Education Centre in German, Korban Ali, RCC chief executive official, Professor Md Alamgir of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Ashraful Haque, RCC’s acting chief engineer and executive engineer Reazat Hossain also the seminar.
Mayors of the different municipalities and teachers of different educational institutions also took part in the seminar.
