Call to punish stalkers
Members of civil society submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through Poba Upazila Nirbahi Officer demanding arrest of the stalkers who killed Natore college teacher Mizanur Rashid
Different civic groups and political parties across the country yesterday formed human chains and demonstrated, demanding immediate arrest of the stalkers and their exemplary punishment.
They also urged the people to come together in protest and uproot the rising social nuisance.
In separate incidents, stalkers killed Mizanur Rashid, a teacher of a Natore college, on October 23 and Chanpa Rani, mother of four daughters of Faridpur, on October 26, for protesting stalking.
Demanding the government to take stern actions to uproot stalking, teachers of Dhaka University (DU) and hundreds of students formed a human chain at the foot of Aparajeyo Bangla of DU where Prof Anwar Hossain, Sheikh Abdus Salam and Mofijur Rahman were present.
The Hunger Project, Shushashoner Janney Nagorik (Shujan), Bangladesh College Teacher Samity of Poba, Anti-Corruption Committee and Poba Press Club in Rajshahi jointly demonstrated and arranged a human chain at the Nawahata College crossing of the district.
They demanded immediate arrest and punishment to the stalkers who killed the college teacher in Natore and submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina through the Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Poba.
Gono Forum, Samajtantrik Mahila Forum, Karmojibi Nari and Government Teachers Training College also demonstrated and condemned the rising trend of stalking.
They also urged the government to set an example by ensuring punishment to the killers and ensure social security of girls and women.
