The returning officer in the Sylhet City Corporation elections on Thursday declared valid the candidatures of 134 general ward councilor aspirants after
scrutinising the already submitted nomination papers.
The election office, however, declared 18 out of total 152 nomination papers of general councilor candidates invalid as
they reportedly lacked information and documents submitted with the nomination forms were inappropriate, said sources in the regional election office, assigned to conduct the SCC polls scheduled for June 15.
The returning officer, SM Ezharul Haque, told New Age in the evening that they had declared valid the candidatures of 134 aspirants in the 27 wards of Sylhet City Corporation.
Earlier on Wednesday, the election office also
declared valid 32 out of
36 nomination papers
submitted by the aspirants for 9 reserved ward councilor posts for women, sources in the election office said.
According to the SCC election schedule, the
candidates can withdraw their candidatures by May 26 and the election symbols would be allotted on May 27.
