The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) has approved a Tk 115 crore fund for spending on city infrastructure development and beautification of the capital ahead of the T-20 World Cup scheduled for March this year. The approval came at the first ECNEC meeting of the new government held at the NEC conference room of the city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar on Sunday. Prime Minister and ECNEC chairperson Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
Under the project there will be improvement of road infrastructure and beautification around Mirpur Shere-E-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, infrastructural development of the adjoining roads of two international cricket stadiums and upgrading of other major roads of the capital.
Besides beautification and decoration works, flawless traffic movement will be ensured. Local Government Division will implement the project at a cost of TK 115 crore. Of the amount, TK 92 crore will come from government exchequer and TK 23 crore from Dhaka North City Corporation Fund. Infrastructural development of about 23 km roads, electrification and setting of street light, traffic sign and road marking on 23.50 km roads and beautification and bright lighting of 20.50 km roads have been included in the project.
