Dhaka Medical College Hospital received a large number of patients injured in traffic accidents during the Eid vacation. A number of people injured while slaughtering sacrificial animals were also admitted to the hospital on the Eis day, DMCH sources said.
The hospital officials said they had received many patients referred by other hospitals— both in Dhaka and other parts of the country.
According to the hospital records, the emergency department received 650 to 700 patients everyday during the vacation and most of them were casualty patients.
The sources said they had received 440 patients till 3:45pm on Friday.
‘On the Eid day a number of patients arrived with injuries they sustained while slaughtering sacrificial animals,’ said Sharmin Akhter, emergency medical officer at the DMCH.
She said most of them had left hospital after receiving treatment.
The hospital sources said they had received more than 50 patients injured while slaughtering sacrificial animals.
Besides, many patients came to the DMCH after different other hospitals refused to admit them due to non-availability of doctors.
Mohammad Roman got admitted to the hospital late at night on the Eid day from Mawna in Gazipur. He received head injuries in an accident while crossing the road.
‘The local hospital referred my son to DMCH after giving him primary treatment,’ said his mother Anwara Begum.
Mizanur Matabbar was referred to DMCH by Faridpur general hospital. He was injured in an attack by a group of people at Salta in Faridpur on the Eid day.
Apart from the casualty ward, other wards at DMCH had a few patients as a large number of them had been released from the hospital before Eid although the government hospitals had been asked to take special measures during the Eid and Puja vacation.
