Bappa Majumdar is a popular name in the music industry of the country. The son of noted classical singer couple ustad Barin Majumdar and Ila Majumdar, Bappa has attained popularity as a singer as well as a music composer.
Bappa has a strong base in classical music since he attended a five-year course at Monihar Sangeet Academy. ‘I have learnt music from my father sitting on his lap and that is why I consider myself as one of the luckiest persons in the world’, said Bappa in an interview with New Age.
He is now passing busy days in his studio working on his upcoming album. ‘Most of the songs of this album will be of classical melody. But I also am going to include a Nazrul song and a Tagore song in the album.’
Bappa’s latest solo album ‘Shurjo Snane Chol’ was released in 2008 which was a massive hit. After 3 years he is coming back to his fans with a brand new album very soon.
Bappa Majumdar is also a founder member of popular band Dolchhut. ‘Dolchhut is close to my heart, soul and existence’. According to Bappa, the vacuum created by the death of Sanjib Chowdhury, whom Bappa considers his elder brother, will never be fulfilled. ‘I always feel his presence’, said Bappa.
Bappa is one of the few singers who have fused the folk elements with modern music and proved himself successful to popularize that. Talking about folk-fusion he said, ‘I am still gathering knowledge about folk music. It’s necessary to have adequate knowledge on such genre so that I can blend suitable tunes of techno, rock, pop and others.’
According to him, the new generation singers, who are experimenting with different genres of music, have bright prospect. ‘The works of Habib, Arnob, Fuad and other composers are really commendable and I see a bright future of the country’s music arena as talented composers like them are emerging.’
The talented singer has also worked as a playback singer in a few recent movies. ‘I also want to work as music director or composer for the movie industry. The composing gives me pleasure of creation.’
Game freak Bappa spends his leisure playing video games but very soon his fans will discover photographer Bappa Majumdar since now-a-days he is also addicted to photography.
