A Jamaat-backed ward councillor has been sued in Chittagong in connection with a bomb explosion incident in which a man was injured while making bomb.
The police lodged the case against Mahfuzul Alam Chowdhury, councillor of 13 North Khulshi Ward of Chittagong city corporation. The police said one Manik was injured in the bomb explosion while he was making bomb in a rented house at Railway Colony on Friday evening.
Later, the police arrested Manik from a private hospital in the city.
The police sources said Jamaat-Shibir men used the house to make bombs.
Investigation officer of the case Kawsar Alam Bhuiyan, also SI of Khulshi police station, said the Jamaat-backed councilor Mahfuzul supervised the bomb-making and supplied bombs to Jamaat-Shibir activists for destructive acts including hartal.
Mahfuz is on the run after the incident, the police said adding that they will be able to get more information from Manik by interrogating.
