Salman Hossain’s all-round performance shocked table toppers Mohammedan Sporting Club in the Dhaka Premier League as Cricket Coaching School defeated them by 31 runs on Duckworth/ Lewis method on reserve day at Fatullah. Salman, who scored a half century on Saturday, picked up three wickets which coupled with four-for of Mehrab Hossain bundled Mohammedan out for 117 runs chasing CCS’s 149 off 25 overs.
Mohammedan, who had the chance to strengthen their lead and almost confirm their Super League place, were further embarrassed as they were all out in just 21 overs.
MSC required 136 runs from same amount of balls when they resumed their match with all their wickets remaining intact having resumed the play at 13-0 from 2.2 overs.
Mohammedan took a hasty approach to the run chase and their reckless effort eventually cost them the game and it all started with Salman removing opener Naeem Islam before they started losing wickets in regular intervals.
The 20-year old Salman Hossain, a regular scorer for his young side, picked up his third half century in the league to go with a century making highest 58 runs off 52 balls before he made it look count through picking 3-27 with his gentle medium pace.
Mehrab gave the much required boost by opening his account through removing Mushfiqur Rahim and later picking highest scorer Ejaj Ahmed (35) and Ariful Haque with successive deliveries.
The MSC saw a collapse before Nazmul Hossain Milon (32) along with Habibur Rahman tried to salvage the pride by putting 32-run for the eighth-wicket stand before Salman finished the game with two late wickets.
Salman, who had been a revelation in the league through his batting said that their plan of stopping the free flow of runs eventually paid off and he was happy with the outcome that he produced with the cherry.
‘I am happy to contribute with the ball,’ said Salman.
‘I don’t bowl regularly in the league and only brought into the attack when my service is required. In that sense it is satisfying,’
‘But it was never an unplayable wicket and they seemed to have batted recklessly,’ he said.
Mohammedan Coach Sohel Islam slammed his charges for their irresponsible batting approach.
‘We batted miserably,’ said Sohel.
‘You can’t win matches with such kind of batting approach and we need to pull up our socks immediately because further slip might cost us dearly,’ he said, indicating his team have now lost a vantage position.
