Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda said there would not be any scope for any quarters to reject today’s election results as the polling process has been accomplished so meticulously.
“The voting process has been arranged in such a way that there will be no scope of boycotting the results,” the CEC said while talking to reporters after casting his vote at Gulshan Model School and College polling centre.
There are over one and half a thousand foreign observers and two lakh local observers to watch the election process, he said, adding: “It will be really difficult for any one not to accept the results.”
A turnout of 75 percent voters in the polls would be good enough, said the CEC.
Terming the day of the ninth parliamentary elections a very happy day both for the Election Commission and the caretaker government, he said that the election campaign was by and large peaceful.
It is a clear indication of a festive atmosphere that many of the city dwellers have left for their village homes to cast their votes.
Replying to a question, the CEC said, “As a voter, I could choose a competent candidate, a pretty good one.”
