Noted singer Chandana Majumder will present songs of the leading bards of the country at a phono-live programme on Maasranga TV at 11:00pm today.
Besides rendering Lalon’s popular songs like Samay Geley Sadhon Hobey Na, Manush Guru Nishtha Jar, Ei Sob Dekhi Kanar Haat Bazaar, Chandana Majumder will render timeless compositions of Shah Abdul Karim and Bijoy Sarkar. In response to the viewers’ request over phone, Chandana will also render songs. She will also share her views on the works and philosophies of these popular bards.
‘Me and my husband [noted singer Kiran Chandra Roy] always perform songs of Bijoy Sarkar even if they are generally performed less on stage or television shows,’ said Chandana. Songs like Ki Saapey Kamralo Amay, Ami Gaaner Mala Goriya, Chokh Gelo Pakhire Keno Tui Dakhishre by the bard will also be presented by the singer.
‘We do it to popularise Bijoy Sarkar among the youngsters as nowadays only senior artistes like us perform these beautiful songs,’ shared Majumder, who also added that she thinks that the young artistes perform these songs less as a different voice modulation is required for these songs making it more difficult to render.
However, Chandana Majumder also observed that in phono-live shows, the selection of songs often depends on audience choice. ‘We try to satisfy as many audience requests as possible and therefore it sometimes becomes difficult for us to present according to our choice because of the limited time,’ said Majumder.
‘I still love to participate in phono-live shows as these programmes work as a bridge between the artistes and their fans. These shows are very good opportunities to understand the likes and dislikes of the audience,’ Majumder told New Age.
