A day-long festival was held at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall on Friday with an array of events including procession, painting competition for children and painting exhibition. The programme concluded with a call to spread practices of fine arts in the country.
Charukala Barisal, the only fine arts teaching school of the city, organised the programme to observe its 27th founding anniversary. The programme included a discussion session, cultural show and prize giving ceremony.
Mohammad Gaus, divisional commissioner of Barisal, inaugurated the cultural programme, while AH Towfique Ahmed, divisional chief UNICEF, inaugurated the painting exhibition. Shahidul Alam, deputy commissioner of Barisal, distributed prizes among winners of the painting competition as chief guest.
Altaf Hossain, president of Charukala Barisal, presided over the programme. Salahuddin Howladar, secretary of the organisation; professor M. Moazzem Hossain, president of Conscious Citizen Committee; Ashish Kumar, regional president of Bangladesh Shikkhak Samity; Shanti Das, president of Sangskritik Sangathan Samanya Parishad spoke at the programme.
The speakers stressed on strengthening their efforts to popularise the study of fine arts in the region, and also preserving and practicing Bangladeshi culture. They also called for opening of an institute for spreading academic study of fine arts in Barisal.
