Chhayanaut observed the 15th death anniversary of its founding president Poet Sufia Kamal with a cultural programme in its auditorium on Friday. The programme featured a commemorative lecture and presentation of patriotic songs composed by three great poets — Dwijendralal Roy, Atulprasad Sen and Rajanikanta Sen — in group and solo. Chhayanaut vice-president Sarwar Ali in his commemorative lecture analysed the late poet as a symbol of protest against all forms of injustice. ‘She had always been a frontrunner in socio-political movements in the Pakistani period and in even in Bangladesh era.’
‘Despite her illness, she was active and vocal demanding trial of the war criminals till her death,’ Sarwar said adding that Sufia Kamal also formed many leading cultural and social organisations.
He also recalled Sufia Kamal’s contribution while forming an organisation like Chayanaut in the Pakistani era along with some other enlightened activists inducing Wahidul Haque; Sanjida Khatun; Safiuddin Ahmed; Ahmedur Rahman, and others.
The cultural programme began with a chorus presentation of Dwijendralal Roy’s song Ekbar Gaal Bhora Maa Dake. The promising singers of the troupe also entertained the audience Rajanikanta Sen’s number Keu Nayan Sudhe Dekhe Alo and Atulprasad Sen’s Jal Boley Chal.
Seasoned singer Iffat-Ara-Dewan presented Dwijendralal Roy’s timeless patriotic song Dhano Dhanne Pushpe Bhora Amader Ei Bashundhara that glorifies the natural beauty of the motherland.
With his stentorian voice modulation noted singer Khairul Anam Shakil moved the audience presenting Atulprasad’s classic Mamo Mon Bijoney.
The audience also enjoyed solo presentation of patriotic songs sung by Jhuma Khandokar, Tripti Khan, Tania Mannan, Satyam Kumar Devnath.
