The visit of Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin to Bangladesh has been postponed due to flight cancellation over bad weather conditions, the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka informed the media on Friday night. Liu Zhenmin was scheduled to arrive in the capital today at noon on a two day visit to discuss political as well as bilateral issues with Bangladeshi leadership. Zhenmin was due to fly to Dhaka from Beijing via Kunming, said the Chinese Embassy press statement, adding that Kunming airport has been closed due to heavy fog and no service was available until Saturday. “Therefore, all the flights of Kunming airport are cancelled,” it said. The statement also said, “Due to the short notice of the cancellation, another flight could not be arranged for Zhenmin and we have no choice but to postpone the visit.” When contacted, an official of the Embassy could not say when the visit may take place in future. “If there is any further information, we will inform the media,” he said. Apart from holding bilateral talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Foreign Secretary Shahidul Haque, the Chinese Vice Minister was scheduled to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition Khaleda Zia.
