No classes will be held at schools in the coastal areas due to Cyclone Remal, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Mohibur Rahman.
He said this after a meeting of the inter-ministerial disaster management coordination committee at the Secretariat on Sunday.
According to a bulletin of the Met Office, the coastal districts of Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barguna, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali and their islands and chars will come under great danger signal 10.
The coastal districts of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Feni, Comilla, Noakhali, Lakshmipur, Chandpur, and their islands and chars will come under great danger Signal nine (r) nine.

Cyclone Remal, located 200km south of Payra Port, is quickly approaching the coast, with its effects already being felt. The Meteorological Department predicts it may cross the coastline by Sunday evening.
On Saturday midnight, the storm’s maximum wind speed was 62kph.
According to the Bangladesh Metrological Department, at 12pm on Sunday, the maximum sustained wind speed within 64km of the severe cyclone centre is about 90kph rising to 120kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain high near the severe cyclone centre.
The Indian Meteorological Department had earlier said that the wind speed could increase further, reaching up to 132kph when it hits the coast.
