Clubs left it on the Bangladesh Cricket Board to decide the grading of players for the forthcoming Dhaka Premier League, which is scheduled to start on July 1.
Representative of the 12 participating clubs sat in a meeting at Kalabagan on Wednesday and decided not to interfere in the matter, which already sparked a sharp reaction among the players.
‘The BCB agreed to most of our demands. So we should not ask for anything more,’ said Ismail Haider Mallick, Abahani Limited cricket secretary, who represented his club in the meeting.
‘We will send a letter to the BCB with few observations, now it’s up to them to agree or not,’ he added.
The BCB announced earlier on Tuesday that it will introduce the grading system in an attempt to rein in exaggerated fees demanded by the players. A rotational policy for the players’ transfer was also announced and a list of over 180 players was also finalised.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan hinted that there will be four grades with four players in the A+ grade set to receive Tk 25 lakh. Grade A will comprise of 24 players, who may get Tk 20 lakh each from the clubs.
The BCB is in favour of reserving Tk 15 lakh for Grade B and Tk 10 lakh for Grade C.
The officials however said nothing has
been finalised yet in this regard and they will soon make a formal announcement considering all the aspects.
