The Bangladesh Football Federation on Monday vowed to take tough action against the team’s that will skip age-level tournament in the coming season. The professional league committee of the BFF in a meeting in the afternoon decided that the offending clubs will face a fine up to Tk 20 lakh and a bar from participating in the overseas tournaments. The BFF, however, refrained from taking action against the clubs who had skipped the age-level tournament in the just concluded season.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who did not participate in both the Under-16 and Under-18 Club Tournament, were speared of any kind of punishment.
Instead, they were rewarded with a place in Bhutan’s Kings Cup alongside Dhaka Abahani Limited.
The league committee meeting also approved the promotion of tainted Farashganj Sporting Club to the premier league despite the club being involved in match-fixing in the second tier of the Bangladesh Championship League.
The BFF had earlier docked nine points and fined them Tk 5 lakh for their part in the scandal but the club still finished second on better goal difference ahead of Agrani Bank.
The league committee refused to take any further action against the club endorsing their promotion in the top-tier alongside champions Rahamantganj Muslim Friends Society, a club which also has a tainted history.
The BFF also approved the decision of reducing foreign players to five from seven in the premier league with each being allowed to register a total of 35 players.
Of the five registered foreign players, clubs, however, will be able to field three players at a time according to the league committee decision.
The transfer window for the premier league will remain open from November 12 to December 11.
Meanwhile, there was no decision made on the cash-rich Super Cup during the meeting.
