The Chittagong city police have begun collecting finger prints and detailed information of CNG-run auto rickshaw drivers through laptops for prevention of various crimes, including mugging.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police’s deputy commissioner Banaj Kumar Majumder told bdnews24.com, “Finger prints of over 100 CNG-run auto rickshaw drivers have been taken on the first day.”
There are some 25,000 drivers for a total of 13,000 CNG-run auto rickshaws in the city. It appears the extra 12,000 of them are engaged in different crimes, including mugging, he informed.
He added that after collection of information, it will be observed whether registered drivers are running their vehicles or not.
Instant steps will be taken for prevention of crimes by making an information bank that will contain necessary information about drivers, owners and vehicles, Majumder added.
