Reckless driving claimed another life as a college girl was killed when a bus knocked her down and ran over her in the capital’s Kamalapur area on Sunday morning.
The deceased Marjana Jahan Munmun, 17, was a
higher secondary student at Central Women’s College at Tikatuli.
Witnesses said that Marjana was heading towards the college by rickshaw from her Mugda house. Suddenly, a bus of Turag Paribahan hit the rickshaw from back and she was knocked down. As she fell on the road, the bus ran over her head, leaving her dead on the spot.
Locals captured the bus and beat up the driver Liton.
The police rescued Loton and rushed him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in critical condition, said Mugda police station inspector (investigation) Mustafizur Rahman.
The police also seized the bus.
Marjana was the second among two sisters and a brother.
Earlier, a minor girl, Tania Akhter, 8, student of class II, was killed in road accident in front of her brother at the capital’s Chankharpul area on Saturday evening.
On September 24, Roksana Begum Laila, 37, was crushed under the wheels of a bus near the north gate of Inland Container Depot at Kamalapur while she along with her school-going daughter Nusrat Samia was returning home at Rayerbagh in Jatrabari.
