Local giants met contrasting fortunes at the Dhaka Premier League on Tuesday, as Abahani Limited suffered a shocking defeat while Mohammedan Sporting Club sealed their second win in as many matches. Prime Doleshwar inflicted a surprising 58-run defeat over Abahani at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Bogra while Mohammedan registered a five-wicket victory against Kalabagan Cricket Academy at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium at Fatullah.
At new venue BKSP-3 at Savar, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club posted a narrow one-wicket win over Cricket Coaching School, which was also the Dhanmondi-based outfit’s second successive victory.
Abahani Limited v Prime Doleshwar
Centuries from Mominul Haque and Roshane Shiwanka Silva enabled Prime Doleshwar to record a 58-run win over Abahani in Bogra.
National batsman Mominul struck 129 from 122 balls while Sri Lanka’s Roshane blasted 140 off 127 deliveries to guide Prime Doleshwar to 320-6 in their 50 overs.
Mominul hit 13 fours and two sixes and Roshane smashed 14 fours and three sixes as the pair put on 276 runs for the fourth wicket.
Abahani paceman Al Amin, who scalped six wickets in his previous match against Cricket Coaching School on September 12, was again amongst the wickets, taking 5-65.
In reply, Abahani could only manage 262-9 in 48.4 overs despite Mosaddek Hossain’s ton and Tharanga Paranavitana’s 81.
Mosaddek and Paranavitana put together a 165-run fourth-wicket stand, but the partnership was not enough to steer the Sky Blues to victory.
Farhad Reza was the most successful bowler for Prime Doleshwar, taking 5-51.
Roshane was adjudged the man of the match.
Mohammedan Sporting Club v Kalabagan Cricket Academy
Mohammedan strode to their second win in as many
matches courtesy a five-wicket victory through the Duckworth/Lewis method against Kalabagan at Fatullah.
Electing to take first strike after winning the toss, Kalabagan were all out for 140 in 43.2 overs in the face of some disciplined bowling from Mohammedan.
Muktar Ali (2-14), Murad Khan (3-28) and Tillakaratne Dilshan (2-22) shared seven wickets between them to prevent Kalabagan from posting a competitive total. Sharif Ullah’s 50 at number seven was the only saving grace for Kalabagan.
Rain forced Mohammedan to chase 119 in 34 overs instead of their original target and Dilshan again showed the way, this time with the bat to lead his side to victory in 26.4 overs.
Dilshan hit 44 off 52 deliveries and shared a 68-run stand for the second wicket with Shamsur Rahman (28) to damage any hopes Kalabagan had of taking early wickets.
Dilshan was adjudged the man of the match for his all-round exploits.
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club v Cricket Coaching School
Sheikh Jamal recorded their second successive victory against CCS at BKSP-3 in Savar.
Asked to bat first after losing the toss, CCS scored 247 all out in 50 overs, as Uttam Sarker (56) and Gihan Rupasinghe (50) helped their side to a fighting total.
National cricketers Shafiul Islam (3-50) and Abdur Razzak (2-45) shone for Sheikh Jamal, sharing five wickets between them.
Sheikh Jamal, set 239 to win in 47 overs after a brief rain interruption, reached their target off the penultimate delivery with one wicket in hand.
Mohammad Shehzad struck a fine 78-ball 83, which was studded with four boundaries and as many sixes, and he was ably supported by Junaid Siddiqui, who scored 42.
Shehzad was adjudged the man of the match.
