Bangladesh on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the United States on counter terrorism cooperation. Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs CQK Mustaq Ahmed and US Ambassador to Bangladesh Dan W Mozena signed the MoU on ‘Counter Terrorism Cooperation Initiative between Bangladesh and the USA’. Under the MoU both parties can extend cooperation in the areas of modernistion of techniques to combat terrorism effectively in order to strengthen the counter terrorism capabilities; develop and strengthen partnership between law enforcement agencies of both the countries; promote cooperation between their investigators, prosecutors, forensic science labs and training institutes; mutual legal assistance between the countries; fight against money laundering and financing of terrorism; cooperation on cyber security; port and boarder security and share best practices and develop capabilities to prevent weapons of mass destruction.
After signing ceremony, Home Minister Mohiddun Khan Alamgir said that this is a cooperation initiative to fight against terrorism. It will not create any legally binding obligations, he added.
