A Jalalabad police sub-inspector in Sylhet was suspended on Thursday for his alleged involvement in holding a businessman to ransom.
Additional deputy commissioner Mohammad Ayub of Sylhet Metropolitan Police said that subinspector Alamgir was suspended for his suspected involvement in abduction of Kabir Hossain.
Actions will be taken against him after investigation, he added.
Kabir Hossain and his friend Khasru were abducted by a group of miscreants from Tilagarh in the city on June 29.
The miscreants also took away the motorcycle of Kabir.
Later a syndicate demanded Tk 20 lakh in ransom to the family for Kabir’s release.
Kabir’s family sent Tk 5.4 lakh to the syndicate through BKash.
On June 30, the abductors set Khasru free at noon and later left Kabir in an injured state in Tilagarh area.
The abductors again contacted Kabir over phone and demanded Tk 40,000 to give back his motorcycle.
On July 19, Kabir sent Tk 40,000 to ‘one Alamgir’ through Bikash service.
As Kabir did not get back his motorcycle, he lodged a general diary with Shahparan police station.
The police found the motorcycle at a motor parts shop in Subidbazar area on Wednesday and informed Kabir.
Kabir identified the motorcycle in presence of ADC Mohammad Ayub of SMP and Lamabazar police camp in-charge Jamal Uddin.
When connected, SI Alamgir said he had found the motorcycle at Shiber Bazar area in an abandoned condition on July 22.
As he was busy, he could not deposit the motorcycle to the police station.
