A couple sustained severe burn injuries in an explosion caused by gas leakage in their house at Uttar Dania under Jatrabari in the capital early Wednesday.
The injured were Monir Hossain, 25, and his wife Nurjahan, 18.
Ashraful Islam, physician of burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said most of Monir’s body was burnt while Nurjahan sustained around 50 per cent burn wound.
Ambia Begum, mother of Monir, said a fire broke at the ground floor of their rented house at 820, Uttar Dania following an explosion in the early hour on Wednesday, leaving Monir and Nurjahan injured.
Locals rushed the injured couple to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Ambia said the explosion might have been caused by accumulated gas due to gas leakage in their house.
She said they last Sunday informed the house owner about the leakage of gas but he did not pay heed to it.
