Safeguarding children from curses of child labour and early marriage has become a challenge in the aftermath of pandemic, said speakers at a seminar in Rajshahi yesterday.
They suggested job creation and boosting up rural economy for resisting the families of low-income group from forcing their children into child labour and marriage.
Assisted by Unicef, Centre for Social Innovation and Sustainability organised the seminar on “Role of Communication in Children’s Issues” at a city hotel.
Students of Rajshahi University, development activists and journalists from Rajshahi and Chapainawabganj shared their experiences and challenges on the issues.
Yenni Gamming, chief of communication, Unicef Bangladesh, attended as the chief guest.
CSIS Director Prof Pradeep Kumar Pandey, RU teachers Mozammel Haque Bakul, ABM Saiful Islam, AKM Mahmudul Haque, Golam Rabbani and development activists Sonia Afrin and Manjur Ahmed attended, among others.
North Bengal Youth Forum in collaboration with Unicef conducted a campaign in 16 districts of Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions in September last year and in January this year to raise awareness against child marriage.
