Chittagong Abahani and Sheikh Russell Krira Chakra played out a 2-2 draw in the opening match of the Airtel Under-18 Football Tournament at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on Saturday. In the day’s second match, Team BJMC eased to a 2-0 win over Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra at the same venue. Chittagong Abahani took the lead twice through their 17-year-old striker Mohammad Sumon, but Sheikh Russell forward Masud Rana scored two goals to earn a valuable point for his side.
Chittagong Abahani, the only Bangladesh Premier League club, who have a regular youth team, took the lead in the 13th minute with a sliding effort from Sumon but the lead remained only nine minutes as Masud levelled the margin with a neat finish from inside the box.
Sumon again gave Chittagong Abahani the lead in the 53rd minute with a side-footed volley from the edge of the box.
But again Masud drew level for SK Russell in stoppage time with a 35-yard scorcher.
BJMC outplayed Muktijoddha 2-0 with Bablu and Fahad scoring a goal apiece in the 25th and 47th minutes respectively.
