33 vie for one seat
The Chittagong University honors admission test under the 2010-’11 academic session is going to begin tomorrow.
More than 33 candidates, on an average, have been contesting for a single seat this year.
A total of 1,11,560 applications have been received through mobile phone short message service against 3,360 seats under six faculties and three institutes at the university, the university sources said.
Some 13,356 applicants under physical science faculty (‘a’ unit) will compete for 624 seats on Thursday, the first day of the admission test, which will be concluded on October 12.
The law faculty (‘e’ unit) will see the toughest contest with 104
candidates competing for one seat. Some 13,323 candidates have applied against 129 seats at the faculty.
Besides, in commerce faculty (‘c’ unit), some 25,036 applicants are vying for 509 seats, in arts faculty including fine arts, drama and Arabic (‘b’ unit) some 24,433 candidates against 996 seats, in social sciences faculty (‘d’ unit) 21,609 applicants against 769 seats, in the institute of forestry and environmental science (‘f’ unit) 1,045 candidates against 45 seats, in the institute of marine science and fisheries (‘g’ unit) 2,340 against 55 seats, and in biological science faculty (‘h’ unit) 10,377 candidates have applied against 419 seats.
Pro-vice-chancellor of the university Professor Mohammed Alauddin,
also president of the admission test committee 2010-’11, told New Age that this was for the first time that the Chittagong University received applications through mobile phone.
‘The selling of admission forms through mobile phone short message
service is a fruitful move to stop the sale of fake forms,’ he said, adding that the university authorities would continue with the system.
