Bangladesh’s most successful Twenty20 batsman of the year 2016, Sabbir Rahman, said on Tuesday that he dreams to play and perform well in the Test cricket.
The 24-year old stylish batsman is yet to make his Test debut but he is confident that if he gets chance he can do well in the most coveted format of the game.‘For a player the main thing is to play Test,’ Sabbir told to reporters during their camp for the forthcoming England series at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium. ‘One can be evaluated only through Test. I think in that way.
‘I have done rather well in one-day internationals and Twenty20 and dreaming to do well if I get chance in Test.’
Sabbir, who has maintained his career strike rate over 100 in both ODI and Twenty20 internationals till now, said he is ready to take the challenge of Test and he will provide his best according to the need of the side.
‘I have no special demand. I will play wherever the skipper and the coach ask me. I will give my best.
‘In the first 10-12 over the new ball moves too much in the Tests and that creates problems for the openers. But at the same time the players who play at five or six have to play spin.
‘There are movements from pacers as well but five or six may be appropriate for me.’
Sabbir is eying to do well in the forthcoming Bangladesh Cricket League, the longer version domestic league, as he thought a good performance there will open the door for him in Test cricket.
‘BCL is very important for me. We have England series next. We have more series next. That is why BCL is especially important for me. If I do well there I may get a call in the national side.
Apart from batting Sabbir has also cemented his place in the team for the shorter versions for his excellent fielding, a certain quality which he attributed to his fitness.
‘I enjoy running and fitness training. I work in gym for fitness throughout the year that keeps me fit.
‘I could not practice during Ramadan. I worked at Rajshahi with fitness. Everything is going fine,’ he told about the current camp.
Bangladesh are out of Test cricket for a year and their next assignment is against England at home on October but Sabbir thought that will not be a problem for them as they have been busy with domestic season.
‘We have played the domestic league. We have to play BCL next. We have not played international matches for a long time and perhaps that made it look like we are not in the game.
‘We played a lot in the last year and maybe that is the reason we have less matches this year. We expect good things.’
