The election of Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) will be held at a convenient time between mid-September and mid-November, while the Union Parishad (UP) and Municipal (Pourasabha) elections in December and January.
Election Commissioner Sohul Hossain said this while he was talking with reporters at his Sher-e-Bangla Nagar office in the city yesterday.
Referring to the previous announcement of local government’s possible election dates in November-December, he said due to the hajj and annual examinations of the primary and secondary schools, it would not be possible to arrange elections during the period.
However, the Election Commission will arrange the DCC election at a convenient time between the Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha, he added.
It may be noted here that the last UP election was held between January and March, 2003 across the country. More than 4,500 UP constituencies became outdated in January, 2008.
