The National Sports Council has finally decided to provide the Bir Sreshtho Shaheed Sipahi Mohammad Mostafa Kamal Stadium in Kamalapur to the Bangladesh Football Federation to install artificial turf, a top NSC official confirmed on Wednesday.
The BFF had requested a 20-year long-term lease for the stadium, paving the way for the installation of new artificial turf under FIFA’s Goal Project Four, but the NSC delayed its final decision, seemingly unnecessarily.
FIFA typically requires that the project facilities be under the long-term control of the responsible federation before work can be approved.
However, FIFA president Sepp Blatter had inaugurated the artificial turf installed at the Balur Math, Arambagh on March 6 2012, before the ground’s 20-year lease had been finalised by the NSC.
The NSC finally agreed to make a same kind of deal with the BFF to install artificial turf at the Kamalapur Stadium.
‘We decided to make a same kind of deal with the BFF about installing the turf in Kamalapur, which we did before installing
the turf in Arambagh,’ NSC secretary Sibnath Roy said on Wednesday.
‘Now we are assessing the previous deal and will prepare the new one as soon as possible,’ he added.
