The home ministry has postponed until further notice its earlier order asking all to deposit their licenced firearms and ammunition to the nearest police station or the legal dealers by December 27. An official announcement yesterday said there will be a ban on the movement of licenced firearm holders with their arms as well as brandishing those in and around the polling centres in the election areas from December 27 to January 7, reports UNB. It, however, said the district magistrate concerned can direct the licenced firearm owners to deposit their arms for the sake of maintaining the law and order during election.
Earlier on December 23, another notification of the Home Ministry directed the firearm owners to deposit their licenced arms and ammunition to the nearest police station or the legal dealers within the December 27 deadline.
