The actors, directors of Dhaliwood-based Bangla cinema are shocked over the death of legendary actor Suchitra Sen. Though Suchitra Sen was a Tollywood-based actor, she was equally popular in Bangladesh and Dhaliwood artistes consider that the legend had greatly inspired them in their film endeavors.
Suchitra Sen died on Friday morning from a heart attack at the age of 82. The legendary Indian-Bengali actress Suchitra Sen was born on April 06 in 1931, in the district of Pabna of the then east Bengal. She was awarded with Padma Shri award in 1972 by the government of India. In 2012, Sen was conferred the West Bengal government’s highest award Banga Bibhushan. Sen acted opposite to Uttam Kumar in her debut film Sharey Chuattor in 1953 which was a box-office hit. Since then the Uttam-Suchitra duo went on being the icons of Bengali films for more than 30 years. Other films of by the duo include Chandranath, Harano Sur, Shilpi, Ekti Raat, Sagarika, Saapmachon, Sajher Pradip and some others. Suchitra Sen also earned popularity in Hindi films.
Suchitra Sen’s only daughter Moon Moon Sen, and her granddaughters Raima Sen and Riya Sen are also popular film actresses of Tollywood and Bollywood. mornings
Eminent Dhaliwood actor Farida Akter Babita toldwith New Age that she considers Suchitra Sen her idol while stepping of her stepping into the industry. Suchitra Senher ‘I was a great fan of Suchitra Sen and used to watch her films again and again,’ said Babita, who also added that Suchitra Sen actually shaped Bangla filmdom and popularised it globally. ‘I don’t think such a sharp actor like Suchitra Sen will ever come in the cine world of the Indian subcontinent,’ added Babita.
Supplementing Babita, legendary Dhaliwood actor Razzak told that he has been a great admirer of Suchitra Sen. ‘I can still remember that I watched Suchitra Sen acted film Basu Paribar when I was very young and I instantly became a fan of her. I even used to carry images of Suchitra and Uttam Kumar in my pocket all the time,’ said Razzak, who further saidinformed that he went to a shooting spot just to have see of the actors and couldwas really happy to see the Suchitra Sen for just a moment.
‘Suchitra Sen has always been and will be a source of inspiration to me as a great actor,’ also observed Razzak.
Noted actor Kohinur Akter Suchanda, on the other hand, shared that Suchitra Sen’s influence on her as an actor was immense. ‘I used to dream of becoming an actor while watching Suchitra Sen’s films,’ said Suchanda, who further shared about her meeting with the legend. ‘I was lucky to have met with Suchitra Sen in Kolkata. I even told her that I had become and actor because of her (Suchitra Sen) but she repliayed that said that it was my credit that I became a renowned actor of my time,’ said a nostalgic Suchanda being nostalgic.
Actor Faruk is proud that Suchitra Sen is originally from Pabna, which is also his hometown. ‘Her acting had always and will forever mesmerise me,’ said Faruk.
Noted director Chashi Nazxrul Islam, on the other hand, told that a Suchitra Sen was one of the great actors in around the world. ‘She was a straight forward actor free from melodrama,’ shared Islam, who also said that,told: ‘I wanted to cast Suchitra Sen in 1984 in my film Shuvo Da in 1984.; H however, I failed as she had already confined herself within theto four walls.’fors,’
