Dhaliwood mourns Anwar Hossain’s death

Dhaliwood mourns Anwar Hossain’s deathDhaliwood mourns the death of the iconic actor Anwar Hossain who passed away at the age of 82 due to age complications on
Friday morning in a city hospital.
The distinguished actor began his journey in the film industry in the ‘60s and has worked his way to create a special character-focused position in the movies of Bangla cine-world that shifted its previous style of hero-focused movies.
The “uncrowned” nawab has created a landmark through his famous role of Nawab in the movie Nawab Siraj-ud-Doulah which got a timeless nation-wide recognition. The actors, directors and film connoisseurs of Dhaliwood have paid their tribute to the great artiste to New Age.
‘He was a fighter who struggled to shape the film industry of the country,’ told eminent actor and Hossain’s peer Razzak to New Age. ‘Through his death, we have lost a much respected personality of Dhaliwood. However, he will always remain among us through the contributions he made in his eventful career,’ added the actor.
Noted actor Prabir Mitra, who has acted with Hossain in numerous films, revealed that Anwar Hossain was a pole star of Bangla cinema and the void created after his death in the film industry can never be occupied. ‘I used to call him ‘Guru’ (Master) and, following me, the whole industry began to call him that. And since then I believed him to be my ‘Guru’ in acting from the core of my heart,’ added Mitra, who also expressed that the loss of Anwar Hossain like a loss of a guardian.
Adding to Mitra, the film historian and critic Anupam Hayat said ‘Anwar Hossain was like an elder brother to us. I still cannot believe Anwar Hossain is no more among us.’ In emphasizing about the contributions of the legend, Hayat also revealed there are films like Lathiyal, Nabab Siraj-ud-Doulah, Nayan Moni Surjasnan, and others that shaped not only the industry but also the Bangali nationalism and it was Anwar Hossain who was the hero of all those films,’ observed Hayat. Hayat, who knew Hossain for a long time, also observed that he was a simple man in his thinking and in living. He was a man with a heart as board as the sky. ‘An amiable man like Anwar Hossain is rare to find,’ added Hayat.
However, the death of the legend has enraged some of his peers as well. ‘The way he died is unacceptable. He deserved more from us but we terribly failed to serve him. I would not blame the government or any specific person but it is our general tendency to neglect the endowed personalities,’ observed the noted film director Chashi Nazrul Islam. ‘Now I only pray to God for eternal peace of Hossain’s soul,’ added Islam.
Hossain’s death also infuriated Sohel Rana, a noted Dhaliwood actor and producer. ‘It is natural that people die in old age. But at least we should have tried to send him to foreign countries for better treatment. The government sends many patients to Singapore and other countries for medical treatment; I wish the government would have sent Anwar Hossain as well. We should change the trend of respecting someone when he/she is dead and not during his/her living days,’ shared Rana.
‘There will be no one in Dhaliwood to as a replacement of Hossain. Anwar Hossain can not be replaced. The position he created only by means of hard work and devotion to work is exceptional in the filmdom of Bangladesh,’ further added Rana.
Noted actor Rokeya Prachi, who was the co-actor with Anwar Hossain in his last acted film Ghani, told that she is honoured that she at least got the chance to act with Anwar Hossain.
